What is eBay Partner Network (EPN)?
eBay Partner Network (EPN) is eBay’s affiliate marketing program.
What is affiliate marketing?
Affiliate marketing with eBay Partner Network is a way for partners to earn commissions by promoting products on eBay through a promotable and shareable link.
eBay Partner Network has a great Affiliate 101 Webinar available HERE with much more information about how affiliate marketing works.
How do I join EPN?
Go to epn.ebay.com.au and click on the “Not a Member? Join Now” link.
After clicking that link:
- If you have an eBay account, you can join EPN by signing into your eBay account and entering a few additional pieces of information about yourself and/or your company.
- If you don’t have an eBay account, you will first have to register for one, and then continue on to join EPN.
Joining EPN is fast and easy!
How do I earn commissions?
First, find what you want to promote on eBay.
Next, create a promotable link to that page on eBay using one of the tools in your EPN account, like the Link Generator.
Then, you promote that link. How you do that is up to you - via your blog, your site, through social media, etc. as long as you follow the basic Terms and Conditions found HERE.
If someone clicks on that link and makes a Qualifying Transaction, you will earn a commission.
What is a Qualifying Transaction?
A Qualifying Transaction occurs when (1) an end user makes a purchase within 24 hours after clicking your link for a “Buy It Now” item, or (2) an end user places a bid on an “Auction” item within 24 hours after clicking your link and wins that auction within 10 days.
For Qualifying Transactions, you receive a percentage of the revenue eBay earns from that purchase. Note that there are certain items and categories for which eBay earns low or no revenue; in such cases, you will therefore earn low or no commissions. These items and categories may include, but are not limited to gift cards, items sold by charities, and special promotional deals. Full details are HERE.
How much commission will I earn?
It depends on what was purchased.
We pay different commission rates for different categories. For example, the “Parts & Accessories” category has a 70% commission rate, while the “Home & Garden” category has a 60% commission rate. (note: these rates are based on the global rate card going into effect on March 1, 2017)
You can see the full detail of commission rates by category HERE.
Once I’ve earned commissions, how and when will I be paid?
In order to be paid your commissions, first you have to provide us some information:
- Enter in your payment information: go to the “Account” menu and click on the “Payment Information” link.
- Enter in your tax information: go to the “Account” menu and click on the “Tax Information” link.
Please note, you should not use any special characters (including commas and full stops) when entering in your information.
EPN pays out commissions once per month, only for accounts that have earned more than 25 units of their home currency (for example, 25 dollars in the United States).
Payments typically go out on the 22nd of the month. If the 22nd is on a weekend or holiday, EPN will typically pay on the next business day.
What does an EPN link look like?
All EPN links start with http://rover.ebay.com/…
You have to use this "rover" link in order for EPN to be able to track if a Qualified Transaction resulted from clicking your link.
The rest of the link contains information that allows EPN to do the tracking, in particular your Campaign ID, which is mandatory for all EPN links.
You should always get your EPN link from a tool provided by EPN, such as the Link Generator tool, or the Bookmarklet tool. We cannot guarantee tracking if the link has been modified.
What is a Campaign and a Campaign ID?
Creating campaigns allows you to separate and manage traffic in more detail. You can name campaigns and add descriptions to help identify them. Some partners have different campaigns for different eBay product categories, some use it to track performance on different parts of their site, and so on.
A campaign ID is a unique 10-digit number for each campaign in your account. Every EPN link must contain a campaign ID.
What types of tools and creatives are available to publishers?
Whatever your business model, eBay Partner Network has an extensive range of tools available to help you improve your campaigns, ranging from simple banners to putting listings on your own site. You can also use the API to access eBay’s features and listings, and present them in a customised format. eBay Partner Network offers the following types of tools and creatives:
